Does anyone know if I can remove IE8 and reinstall IE7 as it really is rubbish

That's interesting. i just installed it a couple of days ago and it is tripping over every five minutes browsing the net. Keeps failing to load pages and closing down with the programme protection error or whatver it is. It has sent loads of reports to M$. I'm usually pretty computer savvy but this is very frustrating.
On the other hand I have been playing a lot with firefox and that seems to cope with the same pages fine but it's hard to break a habit. The bookmarks thing in Firefox is annoying as it doesn't set them out as neat as IE and I like that side wiondow pane in IE. If I close it down in firefox I seem to have to go to View and re-enable it.
Time to have a go at an uninstall of IE8 I think. Above link appreciated.
* Just as an aside, I have just done a clean install of XP on my other laptop and installed IE8 and it runs fine at this point. Presently it is just XP, no software, no antivirus etc. so nothing to conflict with it.

you can remove it but you also need to dig into the registry and remove something according to one of my collegues.
ive got it installed and havent had any issues so far, have you tried compatibility mode for those sites which havent caught up yet?

Hi, yes tried compatability mode on and off. I could make it do it at specific places, e.g. press the 'forums' button on the AV Forums website for example. My guess is it was incompatable with something else I have. Just gone back to 7 and life seems sunny again!

thats the sort of attitude microsoft have unfortunately - thats why its doesnt work on most things - microsoft making up their own standards and expecting coders to write workarounds.

ctrl+b opens/hides the bookmarks sidepane, I just keep most of mine in the bookmarks toolbar at the top though.
You can reinstall IE7, although I'm not sure why you'd want to. IE8 isn't listed under programs in Vista though. I can't remember what you have to do to get it off though, I seem to remember you can't unistall IE8 without doing something a bit unusual can't remember what though.

Mine is doing exactly the same as Blackclouds it just keeps shutting down up to 5 times an hr and sending the info off to microsoft but no matter what I do i cant find any way to get rid other than a format and reinstall but now vista sp2 is out it comes bundled......catch 22

I updated mine earlier this week :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown: I rarely had a problem with IE7 for the things I use but I'm thoroughly pee'd off with frozen windows and "encountered a problem" messages since the update.

I have just managed to remove it and it reinstates 7 just got a tweak to do then will post instructions

its in add remove programs and go to installed updates it is in there as IE8 update just click and uninstall, once your pc restarts the yellow bar will come on at top of your first internet page saying security settings not set just right click and click never show again job done

Well I went back to IE7 and it's fine, as I said earlier on my other post, IE8 seems to be working well on my laptop that has a fresh install so I can only guess there is a conflict somewhere.
Problem with (Windows) computers is so many variables about OS configurations, and all those things waiting for us to plug in an ipod or a camera, a mobile or a gps, anti virus, etc. etc. that you just don't know what it is that is the problem in the end.
