It seems the IE9 beta released today supports ICC version 2 and version 4 colour profiles (same as Safari). Better even than Firefox which only supports version 2. Have a look here for info.

I've just spent several minutes frantically lining up images in Firefox 4 beta 6, IE9 beta and Lightroom 3 and can honestly say that IE9 is displaying a more accurate representation of what I see in LR3 than Firefox can manage. And I thought I would never leave Firefox.

Now if only I could find a decent spellchecker and adblocker for IE9 and I'd give it a decent go (I love FF btw).

I have downloaded it earlier and its pleasing on the eye, yet speed difference I can not say there is any difference in browsing speed.

its a shame that the basics such as

- rendering colour
- positioning of elements
- support for standards

isnt uniform accross all the major browsers - It adds layers of additional work to my day, dealing with all the nuances between all the browsers. Its also a shame that the MS's of this world feel the need to constantly update and change - it feels like more than one a year

I was looking at a site the other day that had the conditional:

if IE5
if IE6
if IE7
if IE8

Just for internet exploder! there were additional stylesheets for safari and specifically one version of a browser on a mac

I'd try IE9 but judging from the screenshots I'm not sure if I like the new layout. Will Windows 7's System Restore uninstall it properly if I want to revert to IE8?

No idea, but if IE 9 has one good point it's that it uses your graphics card/chip to render images instead of your cpu as all earleier versions have done.

IE9 is gorgeous (can't believe I called it that).

I've been using Firefox since IE7 was released and I think I might be about to revert back. I've installed the beta and it is SO fast. Combined with the Radeon 5850HD I have, viewing images is fantastic. Web pages ARE indeed loading quicker than I've experienced for quite some time (That is, those that are rich in content).

Well, I've just installed IE9 (having created a restore point first :suspect:) - I haven't got used to the layout yet but it's definitely a lot faster than IE8 and there's more room.

Been using ie9 all night and apart from the favourites being in the wrong place I quite like it. I've also been using the touchpad on my laptop as someone ate the usb for my wacom tablet and mouse....but that's another story..

What progs have you got that W7 doesn't support? (All of the ones I had installed on XP & Vista still work on W7, even though 7's compatibility checker warned that they wouldn't).

On 2 the RAM needs updating to at least 1Gb - Nero6 - Power DVD 5.5 - Graphics adapter (so new MB) - Serif Photo Plus X2 and some others - I'll wait for a few more years.

.

Windows 7 Compatibility mode should see you right. I haven't got an app that doesn't work in it.

Get a trial copy and give it a go.

As Ian says, W7's compatibility mode will probably work with the software - but changing the graphics cards & mobos on two machines (and beefing up RAM) would be fairly costly.

Only if you never do any web design. ;)

yep - IE, and all its variants is a total pain - they are not particularly consistent between themselves, let alone other browsers

User choices are also a pain. Overthe years the following have caused issues

- some turn off scripting
- some wont install Flash
- some run IE8 in IE7 mode
- cookies turned off
- security turned up to the max.
- dippy high screen resolution, followed by turning up the text size
