I've been tootling along quite happily for a while now with my 30D and very modest lens collection, shooting mainly landscapes, days out, family etc.

Everything was fine, until last weekend when I was given the chance to shoot a local rugby match (my first), with a borrowed Sigma 120-300 f2.8. Well, what can I say?

I've since given the lens back and I'm love sick already, pining for some quality glass. The experience also made me realise what 1D's are for, and I now have serious upgradeitis.

LOL its hard to be satisfied once you've tasted good gear. I was the same the first time I tried a D3 with a 70-200 2.8, 20k worth of gear later and I'm still eyeing off kit.

I can relate, try going to the best beach in brazil (Jeruee International -Florianopollis) and hooking up with some of the girls and then coming back to England! Talk about ruin your life.

I hired a Sigma 70-200 2.8 once and ever since I've hated using my 70-300 Sigma-cheapo.

The worst part (for me) is buying all the good gear and then finding either your skint so having to sell it, or not really putting it to much use so again, selling it.

Its certainly a lot of fun buying it though.

Get rid of the 30D and get a 1D/mk2!

I don't think i could ever use a non 1d body after having my 1d classic for the past 6 months

My lad had serious "I want" trouble when he had a go with my 5D (Mk1) then he went to a footie match as part of his job (Watford v QPR a couple of weeks ago), borrowed my 1d (mk2) and the firms lens 300 2.8, banished all thoughts of a 5D

1D (even old battered ones like mine) do have a certain quality feel and behaviour that is difficult to resist.

Many thanks for the sympathy and understanding. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one... ("Upgraders Anonymous"? )

Joking aside, I'm seriously considering a 1D mkII and a long, quality lens (undecided which yet but it's unlikely to be a 120-300 2.8 due to cost). There's something very satisfying about producing quality results wide open at all available focal lengths and I imagine the 1D's agile focussing/tracking abilities are equally impressive and rewarding in use.

...and afterwards, if anyone asks if I'd like to try their 1D mkIV they'll get a severe muttering to.
