...what would be your ideal kit line up? Camera, lenses, flashes, lights etc etc

List it all :) will go and think of mine now lol

Hi Dave,

This has been asked before.

I have my camera line up sorted and most of my lenses, all of my flash lights, studio lights and filters. Have a new tripod arriving soon.

Only one lens I am toying with buying and that is the Nikon 200 - 400.

Cannot make my mind up if I will use it enough to warrant the cost. Need to prove I can use my 600mm mf first which has only had two outings.

Best regards

Chris

mine would be

Nikon D3X

Nikon D700

Nikon 400mm f/2.8g ED VR IF Nikkor AF
Nikon 300mm f2.8G AF-S ED VR II Lens
Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f2.8 ED VR II lens
Nikon 85mm f1.4D AF
Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.4G

Metz 58 AF-1 Digital Flashgun

Lowepro DZ200 Dryzone Backpack

Manfrotto 755CX3 Carbon Fibre Tripod

Wildlife Watching Large Dome Hide - C30.1 Advantage Timber from warehouse express

I know nothing about studio equipment so im not going to pick any of that.

Well, in the context of my style of amateur photography, I have the kit I need.

I'm very, very fortunate in that I can afford the best of gear, but I don't actually need it. I suppose it's being able to tell the difference between need and want.

i would love the canon ef 200mm f/2. but at over 5 grand, i'm going to be saving for a while yet!

sony a900
sony 35mm f1.4 (i dont shoot this wide but i would like one if it was an unlimited cash situation)
sony 50mm f1.4
carl ziess 85mm f1.4
sony 100mm f2.8 macro
carl ziess 135mm f1.8
3X hvl f58am flashes

and then the accessories to go with it.

D700
Nikon zooms from 14mm to 200mm, all f/2.8.
Nikon 105mm f/2.8 VR Micro
Sigma 8mm fisheye
SB-600
LandRover 90 kit transporter (c/w roofrack + chassis stabilisers)
Aston Martin DB9 kit carrier.

For fun, I might throw in an X-Pan and a small MF kit - possibly the forthcoming Pentax digital one, or a Hassy H whateverthy'reuptonow with a decent assortment of lenses.

Since money IS an object, I'll stick with what I've got, ie most of the above, although the 24-70 and 70-200 are Sigmas rather than Nikkors. Might upgrade them if I suddenly become a bit more flush, although there are other things to spend money on first. (Oh, and I don't have a Landy (any more) or a DB9!)

It's a nice lens but I don't think I'd actually have much use for it, despite sometimes lusting over it...

Honestly I don't know if I'd replace any of my kit. I couldn't be happier with what I currently own, 11 megapixels is more than I have ever needed to date and apart from lack of weather sealing so is the 50mm f/1.4. For me, the 1Ds classic is tremendous value for money by cutting out features (and megapixels) I don't need, while still retaining features I do, like an excellent AF system and weather sealing.

I suppose a couple of 1Ds Mark IIs, since they share the same old style button layout would be nice though :p

I don't think Darren had any toys when he was little! He says he had to make Lego out of earth! But they couldn't afford earth very often. :D

He's making up for it now though.

Canon Eos 1ds4 (when it comes out in a few of months)
Canon Eos 5d2 (for backup/video/lightness)

For general use:
- EF 50mm f1.0L
- EF 85mm f1.2L
- A really nice UWA (I've never looked into full frame UWA so I've no idea which - Sigma 12-24mm)

And for days when you need more range:
- EF 70-200mm f2.8L II
- EF 300mm f2.8L
- Extender EF 1.4x II Converter

And for walkabout:
- EF 24-105 f4L

And a Hassy H4D60 with all the trimmings. :D

2 x Phase one
profoto - everything they make
d3s + 1ds mark 4 ( yeah i know its not out yet but you know)

all the suitable glass for the above bodies

5DMKII
24-70L
70-200L
28 f1.8
50 f1.4
85 f1.8
580EX flash

Or this list is really nice - more realistic than mine, although still out of reach for me at the moment. :'(

Nope cos it doesnt exist yet, your right but thinking about the 1.2 :)
It exists - you can't get it new anymore though.

Isn't that supposed to be really soft and just generally poo?
A bit soft yes - but there is something really nice about the images I've seen taken with it. AND ITS f/1.0!!! :bonk: ;)

Nikon D3s
Nikon D3x
Nikon D700

12-24mm
24-70mm
70-200mm
50mm 1.4
85mm 1.4

Profoto stuff.. Don't know a lot about their product range, but I'd want a ring flash, and four other heads, complete with battery packs, softboxes and the like.

Hassy H4D60 and the trimmings, as said before :D

And a PHANTOM FLEX, full HD video at 2800fps. Drool.

1d Mk IV (maybe the 1Ds Mk IV - depending on spec!)

16-35 F2.8 L
24-70 f2.8 L
70-200 f2.8 IS L (mk II)
300 f2.8 IS L
500 f4 IS L
1.4x and 2x TC's

A nice MF film kit (mayeb tempted by a digital MF kit, but not sure)

Gitzo CF tripod with suitable heads for the above kit for landscape and wildlife photography.

A decent computer set up to handle the above file sizes!

In all honesty, I am 100% happy with the kit I have, I just need to get a 300 F4 L IS and a 1.4x TC and I am done with buying gear (until my 40D dies, or I decide I need a faster walkabout lens!)

5D Mk2
1D Mk IV

24-70 2.8 L (already got)
70-200 2.8
50 1.4 (already got)
85 1.2
300mm f2.8L
Extender 1.4x II Converter

580EX Flash

Profoto lighting gear

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm quite happy with my kit. However, I'm only a hobbiest. What I would do if funds allowed would be to pay for some private tuition from respected photographers. There's a few people on here and I admire their work.:) Oooh and that's not a hint by the way.

this with a zoom lens...and a range rover in black with tinted windows to carry it and to take me from my mansion in the uk to my other one in the south of france

Dont want much then  would it not be nearer to £200K after buying Mrs_C's stuff :naughty:

Probably £300-400K by the time Mrs_C has bought furnaces, a water torch, laser welding equipment and all the other spangley jewellery making stuff she would no doubt want :)

4x D3s.
14-24 2.8
24-70 2.8
70-200vrII
300 2.8
400 2.8
600 f/4
50 1.4
85 1.4
24 1.4
fisheye
loads of pocket wizards and flashes

Then probably 2x 1dsmk4 when it comes out with 24, 35, 50, 85 L series lenses.

oh and some glamorous female single assistants

I would like the Noktor f0.95 for my Panasonic G1. It's only $750 so not exactly money no object territory.

M.N.O. then a Leica M9 and a full set of primes :D

I'd just buy Nikon, Canon, Leica, Hasselblad, Broncolor . . . The companies :p

Leica S2 and lenses plus a canon 1Dsmk3 and some lenses etc.

I'd not go overboard lol
