Yes
I am day dreaming a bit as I will not have any cash until some time after Christmas but I am fancying getting a longer lens. These are 3 options I have come up with.

I have a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 HSM that I could get a 2x teleconvert for to takes it to 120-400mm f5.6.

Or get a Sigma 120-400mm f4.5-5.6 OS HSM. The OS appeals to me for hand shots.

Or a Sigma 50-500mm f4-6.3 HSM. Gives massive zoom range.

What one would you go for if you were me? Dont even know what i would use it for i just have a weard want for more zoom lol

I suppose it depends on what application you'll be using it for, albeit in the main most 'super-zoom' lenses are reasonable at most stuff...

As for specifics from your list, I'm still very happy with results from my Bigma (Sigma) 50-500mm :)

Thanks Mscotts :) I am open to other lenses its just the ones I listed are quite common and come up used for around £500 quite often.

I have the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 HSM, it is a cracking lens. I have a 1.4x teleconverter and like you wanted more zoom. I looked at the 50-500mm but in the end I decided on the 120-400mm because of the size and weight of the Bigma. I am really happy with the performance and it is managable.

If your budget is limited, then the sigma 120-400mm is your best bet, as 2nd hand price is as you said about £500, new £600. Forget about a 70-200mm and 2x TC, would produce poor results, slow autofocus down considerably, on its own the 70-200mm a good lens and you might get away with the 1.4x TC, but 2x are really designed for the faster primes. The bigma 50-500mm is actually a f6.3 so very slow, very heavy, where as the 120-400mm is easily hand holdable and that would be the one I would go for with £500.

Having tried a siggy 70-200 (a lens i used to love) with a x2 TC i would have to say you would not like the results.. very poor IMHO

Thanks for the replies. I have had a few searches on the forum and I like what I am reading about the 120-400mm. Looks like its time to start saving :)
