im connected but cant view websites

Hi, i seem to have a problem with my internet connection whereby i can do a google search and it produces results but when i click on the link the webpage cannot be displayed and wont load.
im using windows 7 and the latest internet explorer, i have contacted my isp (orange) who say my connection is receiving 8meg due to an upgrade on friday which funnily enough is when i started experiencing the problem.

i have a trial version of norton but im pretty sure this isnt the problem because my mums laptop doesnt have any antivirus software currently and thats having the same website loading issues.

i have tried a system restore and still the problem persists so its got to be a problem with the router (which i have reset)

is there anything else that anyone can reccomend that i might have overlooked?

orange "support" are useless.

my money is either on a DNS issue or a firewall blocking sites.

for DNS, go to start -> run and type:

cmd

click OK.

type in the black box:

ipconfig /flushdns

press return. then try web pages again.

sorry, i edited my post afterwards, im on my girlfriends laptop using her connection

Thanks Neil but i have tried that,the guy based in India talked me through those steps but its no use.

even if i select a link through my favourites the website doesnt load

i have a d-link router which might be the problem so i have got orange to send me another router for me to try

funny thing is i can still connect xbox live and connect to games
 
IN that case I would definately agree with neil, first port of call would be DNS. If his advice doesn't work, try setting your router with OPEN DNS server settings rather than Orange ones, see if that makes a difference. You might want to note them down now in case you can't access them at home ;)

I would be inclined to try disabling your firewalls on both router and PC and turning off Norton.
