I'd really like to upgrade my cheapo monopod, especially something that will allow me to easily switch between Landscape & Portrait shooting.

I've come across this system; http://www.custombrackets.com/scripts/prodViewnew.asp?idproduct=122 but it's awfully expensive, certainly not the kind of money I'd be looking at spending especially when considering I'd need to buy the monopod and ballhead as well. Are there any other alternatives?

Also to note, this is really only for when I'm using a lens that doesn't have a tripod collar.

An off-centre ball head would be the way forwards.....I use a Gitzo 1276M but there are sure to be cheaper versions out there.

Check out Manfrotto 234 head. OK for light weight gear. Not sure of maximum weight it would take though. I think I saw some monopods with this free on special offer, try "Google" for this.

Manfrotto 468RC2, on a manfrotto 680b is man enough to hold my gripped 7D and 100-400 where I want it. Can't you put a new ballhead on the existing monpod?
