I am considering purchasing an 21.5 iMac and was wondering whether it's better to go for a model with an i5 processor or just go for the i3?

I suppose my useage would be internet, email, photo & video editing.

Is the i5 worth the extra money?

Any thoughts?

Many thanks in advance.

Video editing ( depending on the file size) will put the biggest strain on the computer. Here it's possible that extra memory will make the difference rather than processor speed. However depending on the programs you use multicore operation may be a better option

have a look at these benchmarks

To me the i5 looks a good option. ( but then I have a 27" i5 so may be biased )

Thanks for reply and link. Very useful.

Okay, well it is very odd to have 12GB of RAM with an i3 seeing as the memory controller operates in dual channel mode. normally, multiples of 3 are only seen on LGA1366 i7 systems, as they operate with triple channel memory.

EDIT: nevermind, brainfart on my part. 6x2GB, 3 banks of 2. :cuckoo:
