iMac: Anyone had this problem?

Hi all,

Got a problem that's bugging me. Tried a google search but still no clearer. When I put a blank cd into my mac it either spits it back out after a few seconds or gives me a "please insert blank disc" message. Other times it will recognise a blank cd but when I try to burn anything to it I get an error message again.

If I insert a music cd or movie DVD it plays no problem.

Anyone else have this problem with macs?

Hi, thanks for replying. I don't think it's the CD-R's as I have had no problems with them in the past. They're not expensive but then they're not the cheapest either. Same happens with blank DVD's of which I've tried several different makes.

I have to say I thought it was me - Tesco cd's work fine on a pc but not on my mac - but then neither do Sony DVD's. TDK cd's no problem.

Maxell DVD's I have had no problems with.......strange:shrug:
 
Yep, def the right way around! Have an appointment at the Apple store on Tuesday so fingers crossed its a software thing and not hardware! :)

I would be interested to hear the outcome on this one - and if they have a specific brand recommendation:thumbs:
 
Not a great fan of the Macs drives. They do seem slow and do throw errors. I run a Firewire external drive on my iMac and it is much faster than the Super drive in the iMac. either using the Mac's own burning software or good old TOAST. OK it's not dual layer but I don't need that, just a reliable drive. ( Not cheapo CD/DVD's either, branded Verbatim).
