ive got the 3.06ghz version - so quite slow in apple terms but i installed an additional 8GB of RAM today to hit the 12GB mark.

Whoah.

I can literally run every application going and it still says yeah and what

i then opened imovie and iphoto and its still laughing at me :|

must have been something broken on it (or just plain old), my 2.83Ghz Core2 Quad, 8Gb DDR2 PC runs LR2, CS3, DW and several IE tabs, Media Player processing FLAC all at the same time without sweating.

p.s. - the way the opening post is written this thread will only go one way..

To be honest - I could do that with my Windows XP laptop with a 1500MHz ecnonomy processor, back when I had 2GB of RAM in it. Sure, it was slower than that iMac to launch programs, esp powerful ones like photoshop, but I could still run a crapload of stuff and not have hard disk churning. Nothing I did back then could ever saturate even half its RAM amount. At the end of the day, you put enough RAM in just about any computer and yes it will operate very well. RAM is so so cheap nowadays, that unless you're absolutely penniless, anyone can enjoy a pleasant computer experience if they spend a little on RAM. Right now that very same machine I mentioned has only 512MB of RAM in it (I sold off the majority of the rest when I was poor some years ago) and still that manages to do me proud.

I've just ordered an i3 laptop with Windows 7 64bit, and am going to put 4GB of RAM and a 64GB SSD in it. Compared to anything I've ever had before, it's going to be so so fast, I doubt I'll ever wait for anything again.

Another pointless thread. PC with more memory can run more tasks simultaneously. Hardly earth shattering is it?

I'll just make the same thread when I get my new machine - which in total is going to cost me about half the price of a MacBook - upgrades included - and about how it will **** all over a standard MacBook...

...kidding of course...

... hang on a minute, MBs are still using Core2Duo? Thought they'd be on at least i3s by now... shocking...

MBs are Core2, MBPs are i series intel

Calm it - I'm not an Apple hater at all (if only you knew). And I was talking about the MB (not the pro) which is still using Core2Duo, which did surprise me a bit.

i dont think the MB's have had a refresh for a while to be honest? you still dont see many cheaper i3 laptops so apple are probably holding back for the moment maybe.
 
The poly unibody isn't that old - it wouldn't surprise me if they introduce the i3 and bump the price right up tho. As it is now the price of the MB is actually quite "good" compared to what it has sometimes climbed to in the past for a basic MB.

I remember when it had something like a GMA 900, 80GB HD, 1GB of RAM, not even that long ago and it cost over £800.
