Have you done the power button reset thing? Leave it plugged in then try it after an hour or two as sometimes they go stupid after being unplugged from the mains.
If it is other hardware failure then hdd should be ok in theory.

there isnt a lot that hasn't been backed up. I dont back up the whole thing but all the raw files etc are on 2/3 hard drives.
So only about 1500 raw files from today. Important though.
I formated one of the cards though and took about 20 images. I will no probably have to run that card through recovery software to try and get them back.
You could always get the HDD out yourself, pop it in a caddy and read it on another machine.
If there is no power whatsoever the changes are your drive should be ok. Now if it started with the grey screen but can't find a boot drive I'd be more concerned.
