iMac Screen Image Burn - Update : Absolutely awesome service from Apple

Even if its 2 years old?

Most definatly, they sell you 3 year applecare which is Apple taking an educated gamble on their products not failing within 3 years, if they do then it's not fit for the purpose it was originally sold and as Arkady says they are new parts anyway.

I would put money down that if you go armed with the correct knowledge they will attempt another repair and then if thats no good you will be walking out the store with a brand new shiny and updated model

Seriously, do it, ive had a replacement washing machine from Bosch which was almost 3 years old and well out of warranty, retaillers hate people like me who refuse to be fobbed off, i personally would have been camping out on the stores front door with placards telling passers by about the shoddy workmanship.

Well I turned it on this morning (I leave it on 24/7, but display set to sleep / power save) and the lines were gone. I've just watched an hour's episode of something, and then checked again, and I can see them back again, but faintly...Nowere near as bad as last night. Will do some more testing later. It's my browsing that does it really, as I'm on TP most of the evening....

You berk - use a cheap PC notebook for this stuff and keep the Gucci kit for editing...

I've followed your thread on this and I wouldn't be doing any more testing, it would be going back and a fuss being made.

I know that the PC / Apple debate will go on for ever but I still use an IIyama 19" monitor that is now 6 or 7 years old. It has email showing on it best part of 24/7 365 and show no sign of ghosting or burn in.

Has Apple gone so badly wrong the last few years, seems to me their products no longer live up to their name :(

Well I'm now booked into the Genius Bar tomorrow....again.

It's not been as bad today, although Ive not really been using my mac much.
The only worry I have is trying to replicate it tomorrow.

I'm also toying with the idea of *not* reimaging my HD, which I always do before I take it in (A fresh install of Snow Leopard). I don't like my personal machine being 'live' while they're playing with it.

Took it in. Saw the guy who I originally saw when it first had dark spot problems...

Spent some time with him discussing the issue etc.
He couldn't help me enough, and he was a really friendly guy too. He saw the problem on the screen straight away (It had been turned off for nearly an hour when I got there).

Backed some stuff up onto my Sandisk Cruzer Drive.
Backed some other stuff up onto the free blank DVD they gave me.

And left it there. For good.

Came home with a shiney new 27" iMac. With 3 years new Applecare.

Absolutely brilliant customer service. TBH I know I had problems last week with being fobbed off, and the massive communication problems.

But this more than makes up for it.

Absolutely brilliant customer service IMO.
So Jason at the Apple Store Trafford Centre. Thank you. Im happy :p

May be a Magic Track pad as a surprise Christmas prezzie for it :)

You did indeed.
Although I was willing to let him repair it again. He said it could be a faulty panel (maybe a faulty batch), and he would also replace the logic board. He said the parts are actually in stock, and went to physically locate them.....

That's when he came back and asked me where I bought the Mac from...Luckily it was the very same store :)

Was a worry backing up just 8 gig of over 200 gig of data.
Time machine said the last successful backup was 9th sept, so I save everything after that...Came to 12 gig....and let him delete the rest. Over 200 gig of photos etc....

Yes, they are all backed up at home, phew! :p
