Afternoon all,

looking into people who use both/have used one and went to the other etc for feedback

how well do people find photo editing on a MPB? Reason I ask is because I use a MPB all day at work which I can also take home, use at home, and run it as I would my own at home (no illegal software etc)

now I am wondering if its worth using it as a main editing machine and selling the iMac, I use that for photo editing and website stuff which I can do on the laptop

I could buy a Decent sized screen to run the MBP from as well as use my current mouse/keyboard setup happily on them

just wondering if people notice a drop ooff in performance between the two? all pics are saved on NAS and all other documents are on my USB HDD

I currently own an iMac 27 inch 3.06GHz core 2 duo and it runs like a dream, far far far faster than my old Windows based Dell XPS 420 2.4GHz quad core, i used to use a 2.4GHz 15 inch Macbook Pro core 2 duo and the iMac blows it out of the water in terms of speed and responsive ness.

I went down the quad core, i5 and i7 route in windows desktops and i really didnt see that much improvement in performance over a well set up and configured core 2 duo, the difference was in fact so negligible (sp) ive gone back to a core 2 duo

Of course i dont really multi task that much, Photoshop, a couple of browser windows open and maybe streaming sky sports over the net so not massivly intensive hence not really needing the quad core or i7 processors

Pretty much with you on what I dot be honest so no great deal on huge power

May see what editing is like over the weekend, in no huge rush to decide either way

I agree with Peter. Although I did use my MBP as an editing machine via a 24" display for several months. My images were stored on external Firewire drives so acess was reasonably fast. Only problem is you could go through a lot of battery cycles, which may not be a good idea

I have access (used quite often) an iMac 24 inch (last generation) and I own a i7 15 inch MBP. If the MBP had the 5400 RPM drive in it that came with it then I would say that I would notice the difference, but with the 7200 RPM drive in it, and 8 gigs of ram I really can't tell the difference with the iMac. My Quad Core i5 windows 7 box (which I do most of my editing on) feels about the same as my MBP.

Bottom line, if you have 7200 RPM drives or better SSD drives in your notebook, then it will not make a difference in speed (if you are working on images on the internal drive). Sometimes I prefer to work on the MBP cause I can do it laying in bed.
