image on Memory stick missing

I am trying to free up some space on my hard drive so instead of going the whole hogg and using an external hard drive I am saving the images on a Kingston memory stick and then deleting the image from my laptop hard drive,but when I replace the memory stick I find the item also deleted from memory stick although I had previously checked it was copied ok on to the memery stick before deleting from Laptop.Please can someone help me I am worried about losing all of my images if this continues

If you are using an external hard drive, why are you putting the images onto a memory stick?

Sounds odd, see if you re-format the date-stick?

also worth downloading some image-recovery software, you can still get files back memory cards/data-sticks after they have been formatted.

If you wanna try image recovery software, i've had great results with recuva. It's free and easy

I`ve tried it with 2 different memory sticks and have same problem with both.

You should have your images saved in at least two locations. A memory stick is probably the least secure place I can think of. You can easily lose the memory stick physically, they can also easily break - both physically and become corrupted.

I would try other methods of freeing up Hard Drive space.

Go to Add/Remove Programs, uninstall any unnecessary programs.
Run Disc Cleanup - remove as much junk files as you can.

Thanks for your suggestions I`ve tried all that including losing the memory stick (trust me) so I think I will have to invest in an external hard drive.

Are you using any kind of software to move your images to the memory sticks?

If so could it be that it is syncing the data so that once you remove an image from your PC it is automatically removing it from the memory stick each time you plug it in?
