Image Resize in LR2 Help Please!

I took some home studio pics last week of a family and they have asked to one of the images to be printed to at least to 30x30".

The image is cropped to 2000x2000 pixels (2.5mb), I've looked at the resize option in LR2, I'm a bit confused about -

1) whether to use pixel or dimension (inch) settings for the resize?

2) what should be entered in the PPI field?

Thanks!

Just export it at 30"x30" with 300dpi. I warn you, it will end up as a huge filesize though! Edit; and depending on the sharpness of hte image, the amount of detail etc, your 4mp image may start to break up at that size.

Thanks - I couldn't see any option for DPI in export, is that the same as PPI? (excuse my ignorance!)

As MK says, resize to 30"x30" although I'd be tempted to drop the dpi down to say 200 or 150 depending on where you are getting it printed, unless of course it is going to be viewed close up, then I'd leave it at 300.

Generally the Lightroom resize algorithm is better than Photoshop's, but for something like that it may be better to use a specialist program such as genuine fractals.

Yes, Dots Per Inch/Pixels Per Inch

It is a tricky one, if you have got your nose pressed up to the image 180 dpi will look worse, if it is hung on the wall and you are looking at it from more than a few feet away there will be no difference.

Having said that if the printer needs 300dpi you will need to give them 300dpi...
