I have a pile of photos I am about to put in a photobook, I have them in 2 formats, jpeg small - circ 1 meg, and also RAW.

So to put them in a photobook, max siz of photo 28*21 cms, do I need to make the RAW files jpeg so they are better quality or is the small jpeg good enough quality for this size of photo??

Some will be converted from RAW where I have played about with them but most wont.

If you're still using Albelli, when you put them on the page you require them on, if they are not good enough in quality, they will be flagged up in the top right hand corner. I have my lightroom set up to resize and convert :)

Thanks

lightroom :)

I have elements 8, which has been fine to date, but it beginning to show its limitations.

What size do the photobook printers say you need to supply the images at?

It is possible to do the resizing in Elements 8, but Lightroom can help automate it.

As far as I'm aware, the printing company are talking about number of pixels when they talk of quality, the image could be a blurry mess, but if there are enough pixels to print at the size of print you decided upon then no problem. One persons blurry mess is 'art' to somebody else ;) so I can't see then having the time or inclination to look at each image too closely.

If you have a highly cropped image, it may say that there is not enough pixels/quality to print at the size you want to. I have found that while doing a Blurb photobook.

If the Jpegs have come straight out of the camera then the pixel amount will be the same as the RAW file. A processed RAW file will be the same number of pixels. Being Basic/Small Jpegs though they will have a very high compression applied, but if they look fine though, carry on. I would look at the images close up though for any compression artefacts, especially if you're going to print out very large. If you see any then at least you have the option to convert the RAW file of the same image, and save with less compression.

well I have sent it using the small jpegs, will find out when it arrives - hopefully before the 30th June, as I have another one ready to go and I want to see how this one pans out first.

Thanks Redhed, I had sent it before you replied, but at least if it is all horroble when it comes, I will understand why.

Craikey baby - I havent seen anything from them specifying a minimum res.

Bring it to Aberdare Sam, we can compare notes!
