Ello folks, just a wee question from me. I shoot on a Canon 400D which I think takes shots in a 3:2 ratio(if I'm wrong please correct me btw) which is ideal for 6x4, 9x6 etc. I've had a few people ask me for a print in 10x8 format though and sadly I haven't left enough room at the edges to crop to that style.

What I'm wondering is, Do many people purposely leave some space so that you can crop your final image to suit various print formats?

Tommy.

I do sometimes. Occasionally shoot with the intent to crop to square too and to panoramic (although then I generally take a series of shots rather than crop just one).

i take pictures...and if they need cropping as they usually do..i do it
i dont ever try to 'fill the frame' so i can have some lee way
12Mp...get a life

Cheers for the responses guys, it's something I had never thought about until the question of a 10x8 print came up but I guess I'll need to try and be more aware of it in the future and shoot accordingly.

Good idea.

Next time you do a panoramic landscape, make sure that's suitable for a 10x8 print too.

I try to make myself shoot more than just filling the frame with the intended shot, not always successfully, you can always cut it off but you can't add it on.

I sometimes try and leave some space around a shot for cropping later on but generally though I always print at a 6/4 ratio or a multiple of it
