It's not going to be any less portable than a normal steadicam setup.

Id buy one, it seems like a reasonable steadicam setup to allow you to use a dslr comfortably as a video camera. Obviously it's not the sorta thing you bring to a wedding but then it's not designed for that purpose.

Add a gyro and you would have a very good rig for producing videos from.
