Image Stabiliser

1 SECOND

A one second exposure WILL be blurry, with or without IS.
You need a tripod for any exposures that long........

Try bumping the ISO right up to bring the shutter speed up somewhat, then try

handhold it at 1/10 with and without IS

you will know if its working or not, the shot without IS is very likely to be blurred, the one with IS will be clear.

Even the best IS will not stabilise a shot at 1second.

the IS will come in on a half press of the shutter, so zoom to 55mm focus on something far away like a TV aerial on a neighbours house (for example!) and half press the button - it should be really obvious as the view through the viewfinder should wobble a lot less!!

1 second ? thats pushing it if there sharp it makes me think you have it on a tripod.

at 55mm you should be able to hand hold with IS on at around 1/15/ 1/20 sec with is off you would need around 1/50 sec .
also you will see the image jump a little as the IS start working, you should also be able to hear the motor.
Rob.

you do have the IS switched on and not OFF
Rob.

hmmm, it is switched on isn't it? ;)
when you half press the button you'll also here the IS start up, with a slightly louder noise which you might mistake for the AF working? - switch it to MF to remove this possibility.

iv just had a look an mine and to test it i focusd on something at 55mm put the camera in live view 10x zoom and half pressed the shutter . you can only hear the IS working if you hold it to your ear.
hope this helps
