Yes
IS OS SSS IV and any other name for it ;)

Question: I have a Sony a200 with built in SSS (Super Steady Shot), which is sony's own version of an in camera image stabilizer. Now, I am slowly building up my lens library and have just bought a Sigga 17 - 70 f2.8 - 4 with OS. My question is in 3 parts:thinking:

When using a 300mm with no OS, on a tripod, do I use the camera SSS?
(I had heard that OS IS SSS should be switched off when on a tripod)

When using the 17 - 70 with inbuilt OS, do I keep the camera SSS switched on? or will the different systems work against eachother.

Or... do I keep SSS working in all situations

I only ask because some of my stuff appears a little soft, not much, but a little :bonk: Thank you in advance.

I experimented with a long lens on a tripod using a remote release and couldn't detect any difference between SSS on or off, even when pixel peeping. I tend to find more prolems introduced by me forgetting to bring the remote release with me (and so moving the camera when I press the shutter) than the SSS setting.

I didn't realise anyone did stabilised lenses in a-mount (why would they?), so no idea about that question.

I turn SSS off when panning, I don't want it fighting deliberate movement. Most of the rest of the time it is on, unless I forget.

What does the manual say about tripods and SSS?

If shooting with OS on an SSS body, I would use one or the other forms of stabilisation - try to use both and you'll end up with fuzzy images. If I were you, I would use the lens's OS since that stabilises the viewfinder image.

There has been a lot of debate about tripods and IS on or off,but tests on a Nikkor 18-200 VR (vibration Reduction) proved it is better switched of when on a tripod. Use lens is as apposed to body sss. As this was set up for that specific lens.

Yes but we aren't talking about cheap Nikon lens and cameras. :D

But I agree with towershot says anyway. :p

from the sigma website - For Pentax and Sony mount, when the OS function of lens body is used, please turn the stabilizer function of camera body off.

Great advice folks, thank you all:clap:
