Image Through Viewfinder Not Representing Final Image...

Confusing title I’m sure you’ll agree, but looking for a bit of help here.

Took some photo’s last Wednesday and it was when I was reviewing them I noticed what I was seeing through the viewfinder was not what I was shooting. The image I’m getting is off centre, the centre seems to be to the left slightly, took a few photos of still box objects aiming at a centre point but seeing it off centre on the end result.

Now I thought it might have been the lens I was using at the time as the lens I was using but tried another lens and was getting the same result.

So what could be the cause? I haven’t knocked it and while not in use I do leave the lens attached, but its normally in my bag. I’ve had the camera just for over a year now and have only really start to use it constantly the last couple of months.....it’ll kind of suck if its beggared now.

Not heard that one before
With a SLR you should see most of image if you get the eye up close to the viewfinder,
You will see roughly 95% of piccy .
If the eye is slightly to one side Thus seeing a slightly of centre shot  is the only answer I have.:suspect:

Could be a misaligned sensor?

Seems to be a common theme with sony dslrs...

Will go find links.

Couple of ideas are you looking square on through the viewfinder it's quite easy to look at an angle, rememeber that the image through the viewfinder is only 95% of final image. Other option is that sss is stuck and the sensor is stuck to one side

This is gonna sound daft, but could it be the way you actually press the shutter button. It could be something as simple as the camera moving slightly as you press it.

The reason I mention it is that the missus was having a similar problem in that all her shots were tilted in the same direction. Turned out that, instead of squeezing, she was just pressing down and it was actually pushing the camera down on the right hand side as she took the shot.

I thought thay there was something wrong with my camera until someone noticed just as I press the the button I moved the camera slightly. :bonk:

Thanks for the response guys....one of the reason why I'm not afraid of putting anything up here that might be a bit daft.

@ Towershot & Billybob99- I was aware that the viewfinder does not fully show the image, but I've never noticed the huge descrpency before hand. I also don't think I've changed my technique either.

@ Smoothedit - Doesn't sound good, common issue with sony's  thanks for the links though...will look into it.

@ Fabs - I don't think so....but will set up some test to find out. Just got to find my table tripod to test and will use the timmer. will post later.

@ Dreameruk - Do you mean the foam/rubber around the viewfinder? I've removed that and put it back on again still no change

Thanks again guys

Is the camera on a tripod? Is the lens image stabilised and is this switched on?

I've noticed that when I've forgotten to switch off IS with the camera on the tripod, the image is shifted slightly when the shutter is pressed.

the foam inside that stops the mirror when it flips up
