I have really important images on my memory card. I've just plugged my card in to my computer via a memory card reader and it won't read. It's asking me to reformat the disk, but I know if I do that I'll lose the images!

Just put the card back into to camera and it's coming up with the formatting message.

I'm kinda panicking here. These images are for a really important college project due in on Wed and I also need to use this card tomorrow.

Is there anyway of retrieving these images?

God, I hate technology!! :bang:

am not sure which of the freeware utilities are the best. I use the Sandisk one which comes free with the higher end cards. Search for memory card recovery and try downloading a couple. If not, then a re-shoot may be required (if possible)

I have a SanDisk Extreme III 4gb card. Don't think it came with any software though.

Not possible to do a re-shoot before my deadline as I shot a clubnight. Totally tiring experience as well so will be gutted if I can't retrieve these images.

I'll have a google for freeware stuff.

Jessica - i use Imagerecall it works wonders and has recovered stuff from previously formatted cards for me in the past no worries.

you might find that you need to format the card then do the recovery - sounds scary as hell but it works :)

Also try recuva from Piriform. I've used it before multiple times and it's worked.

Jess - thats technically true yes but when you use the recover software it will pull back everything it finds which will likely include stuff you forgot was on there. if it wont read the card without formatting then do it, if it reads it without formatting then use imagerecall or recuva etc

if you're still getting issues drop me a line and i'll pop out and help you

I lost 2gb of images from a SD card that I'd used to shoot turtles underwater and other things I couldn't shoot again. I used San disk's rescuepro and got all but 2 photos back so if you can get hold of it I'd highly recommend it.

Ahh, that makes sense. Be interesting to see what it recovers, hehe. I tried a freebie one that wouldn't let me save the file on the free version but it did seem to locate about 160 files which sounded promising.

Hopefully by the end of the evening I'll have this sorted :)
