Imported cameras??

Im looking for a Canon 6d , which watching a few on ebay.
I was watching one, the guy said he bought it in Dubai but its not not black market one.
Whats the difference?

Just a quick tip

If buying a second hand camera ask for a shutter count first(the amount of pictures the camera has taken) The higher the count the cheaper should be the camera price. If I was going to buy a used camera anything over 10,000 clicks I would not touch even thought the shutter count average is around 150,000 give or take a few thous. Also if it has been in for repair or sensor clean.

A car for example can be clean and shiny on the outside but the engine knackered, same with cameras


A "grey import" is one that has come into the UK not via a main UK dealer is the simplest answer. There are companies in the UK selling them cheaper and I am not knocking them but beware you may be caught for import duty and repairs might be a problem as well.

Companies like Nikon or Canon may not touch them so it would be down to find an independent repairer

Almost all of my EOS digital bodies are 'grey imports'. The only one I bought through a genuine UK supplier was the EOS M because it was reduced to clear. Maybe I've been lucky that nothing has gone wrong with any of them despite heavy usage.

HDEW are doing the 6D *new* for £795 which is a bit of a deal. See: http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/canon-6d-body-only-1167-p.asp Yes it's a grey market camera, but they provide a free 3 Year warranty apparently. I've never bought cameras through them but have bought lenses and been very happy.
 
Is it s/h your thinking of buying, if yes

1/ I always check the cheapest price i can get from an good importer hdew Digtalrev Pamamoz,i they are cheaper i go for that route,but if you can find one at a good price s/h it wouldn't stop me from buying it.

Have to disagree with realspeed about the 10,000 shutter count,some camera are only just running in around that mark,and if the price is right shouldn't discounted :)
 
Great thankyou that's a great help. I've got £800 , pamamoz hVe got them below that at the moment. eBay they seem to be going above that [emoji53]

Canon and Nikon won't have a problem fixing an import, they'll just charge for it rather than do a warranty fix. However, use someone decent and you'll get a warranty from the seller anyway.
 
You won't regret it Glyn. I have used them a few times now and the service has been excellent. Considering that the goods are coming from the other side of the world, the delivery is swift. I've waited longer for UK retailers to get the stock into stores before.

The CS team are excellent too. If you have any queries then they usually get back to you within an hour or two. Not bad considering the time difference.
 
Where does the body have to go to for the warranty to be enacted? Can it be repaired in this country? Or does it have to go to USA or somewhere?

Also, do you get stug for import duty / VAT on arrival?
 
I've never been hit with import duty, but if you do then both Panamoz and DigitalRev refund it for you.

Warranty is within the UK i believe. They'll have you send it to a reputable repairer and pick up the bill. Panamoz usually offer a 3 year warranty which is more than you would get from Jessops etc. i believe?

If you read my post properly I said I would not buy one over 10,000 clicks not one should not buy one with a higher usage.

I bought my 6d from panamoz and they are highly rated on here. I even bought by BT to save the extra they allow for paying via BT (I only did this because of their excellent reputation). I'd suggest buying from panamoz or HDEW (who also have an excellent reputation), whichever is cheapest
 
10K clicks isn't much at all. Don't get hung up on numbers! Marketing works in mysterious ways... Everyone is entitled to their own manner of judging what's important to them though of course..
I've had good experiences with DigitalRev and they actually have a bricks and mortar (or perhaps concrete) office in HK which i like.

Hopefully after a coffee people will be slightly more pleasant this morning! ;-)

You'd use the warranty supplied by the importer, not the Canon warranty. You simply take it to one of their local authorised and approved UK service centres.

A grey import is one that hasn't been imported by the EU main dealer, not a UK issue.

You have equal rights on any equipment bought in the EU. I buy a lot of stuff from MediaMarkt.

I had a D750 with some swarf in the VF from Panamoz. They asked if I wanted to send the camera to Nikon for repair, or return and have a refund. As the camera was only just over a week old, I returned for the refund. The camera was picked up the next day and I had a refund within three days of reporting the issue. Fantastic customer service.

I believe if you do send to Nikon you pay yourself and they reimburse you the same day after paying. For the recent flare and other isssues with the D750, Nikon have been repairing them under warranty with no cost to purchaser even if bought from Panamoz etc.........

I have bought four cameras in the last year from Panamoz and the longest delivery has been four working days and this was due to UPS not delivering on third day as planned, as they were to busy with the run up to last Christmas. Never had to pay any further charges other than the initial price of camera.

Sorry but i think your over reacting a bit,the OP was asking about buying an camera,to which you made a comment to which you are entitled to do,which you said i would not buy a camera over 10,000 clicks,all i said to which i am entitled to do,is i disagree with you.
