So I offered myself took photographs on Greenwich Head -rowing race on Thames with my rowing club.
That was a long while back...had no reply for a while so gave my d800 for repair..and now they came back that it would be nice if I could take photographs...
As it is a 'free' gig, I'm not willing to spend money on body rental. Its either that, or I would need to get my camera back from Nikon, most likely unrepaired....and I would need to drop it back again with Nikon...

So dead end...kind of...

Anyone on here wants to help me out and let me use his body on Sunday? On the river? :)
 
I think I will get mine d800 from Nikon even if not repaired...

If you can't persuade your partner to let you borrow their D300, you really don't stand much chance with a complete stranger! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Seriously though, covering an event, your mind is on the event and getting 'the shot' more than where you're putting your feet. The chances for mishap are higher, and near water too....

A few random thoughts:

Think what the cost would be in retrieving the D800 from Nikon - postage, 'hassle factor', whether it's even possible at all?
People have had repairs back from Nikon back in a week or so - any chance in your case?
Is there any chance of flogging any pics from the event?

Hiring a body with appropriate insurance may be the best safest solution.

dont think I would be able to flog them my am thinking about it - maybe rival rowing club;)

I was offered a d300s but would need to insure it and have no idea where to go for short term insurance - when I put it on mine, premium goes up until it ends:( that goes for my partners d300 as well....

retrieving camera from Nikon would cost me around £10 - travel there and back - london HQ

am not NPS member so repairs take longer even though it is manufacturers fault!
Spoke to them this afternoon and will call again...and can get it back on Friday even if not fixed but then would need to get it to them again!

need to investigate possibility of selling photos further...

Mind you, you do have a broken D800...
 
Let me see. You have broken a camera, you have access to another but wont insure it. You want to borrow a camera from a complete stranger and presumably you won't insure this one either:shrug:.

If I were you, I wouldn't hang around waiting for offers! :nuts:

First of all I haven't broken anything!!!
Camera has left AF issue! Manufacturers fault!
Before you blame someone for something, make sure you know what you are taking about!!!

Second, I have no way of insuring second camera for a short period of time hence I am reluctant to use it!

Careless??? Camera would be on the boat floating on Thames...clippers and other boats create nice waves. Some of them don't slow down as they should .

Would you go on the small 2 men boat on busy river without camera insurance? Would you? I wouldn't and won't!

Oi, knock it off.

Lukas is a regular on the London meet ups , and a very decent bloke, So he's not exactly appealing to 'complete strangers'.

If I were free on Sunday afternoon and in London, I'd go and shoot it for him!

I think I said beofre that I wouldn't use a camera that is not insured - even if it is my old and now my partners; but some don't see it...

Will be going to Nikon on Friday...fixed or not...


am only on the lookout for a TC now...if not from a friend, I might rent it...should be cheaper than lens hire...

or a D800 supplied new with a known fault that gone for a warranty repair :shrug:

Having had the pleasure of meeting Lukas on a couple of occasions, and knowing he's a good bloke I'd also be happy to vouch for him.

Lukas - If I didn't have two weddings this weekend you could borrow one of mine

No one said you broke it, only that your D800 is broken!! Anyway it was said in jest, in an ironic sort of way!

Yep I would, I'd just make sure I had the strap around my neck at all times, and I was VERY careful not to fall in :)

But yes, I see what you're saying... Can't you hire a body / lens for the day which would have its own insurance cover?

if you aren't earning anything from the shoot your household contents cover is probably the way to go

mine covers me to £5k outside the home for any item in my possession (except for hired items which ought to have their own insurance) so long as its not being used for business.

Also an insurance broker will usually do by the day cover for a small(ish) fee
 
I would rent a body but as it is not paid for my own rowing club, I'm not keen on spending more money on it
 
to be honest its doubful anyone is going to lend a body if its not insured , and rental may work out not much more expensive than by the day insurance
