In praise of "Easy ISO"

For those that weren't aware the D90 has a fantastic feature, activated through the Custom Settings menu, called "Easy ISO" - which allows you to use the main command wheel to adjust ISO when shooting in A or S modes without holding any additional buttons.

My D300s has just arrived and despite being impressed with it on the whole, I'm a bit disappointed that a newer camera with a top LCD that is probably twice as large as the D90's, not only doesn't have this feature but doesn't even display the ISO on the LCD.

It's not all bad, my next planned upgrade is the D700 which works in a similar way, so I guess it's better I change my shooting habits now rather than later.

Pain though :bonk:

I'm a bit surprised I must admit, but doesn't the 300s display the ISO in the viewfinder? Most people would prefer that, but I agree both options is nice.

I'm hoping someone will come along and prove me wrong here but despite the masses of screen real estate available I can't find an option to display ISO :(

edit: mis-read your post, sorry! It is indeed visible in the viewfinder, I've just never got into the habit of looking there because I found it easier to use the LCD. Sure I'll get used to it.

I always look in the viewfinder, never the top screen, I think if you press the info button it will display on the rear LCD

on the d80 you can set the programmable button on the front to display the iso in the viewfinder, the iso is displayed on the top screen when the iso button is pressed, dont know how that differs, but thats what i have my programmable button set up for, so i can keep my eye in the viewfinder.

That's because it's not on the top screen of the D300. If it was there I guarantee you'd use it ;)

Having owned a D300 for two years I can assure you I wouldn't :D

I owned the D80 before the D300, and was impressed with the info in the viewfinder display, which is where I want to see it, so have got used to seeing it, and everything else I need, in there.

Enjoy your D300

Yes but when you get your D700 you dont have to worry about what ISO you are on, they will all be clean;)
