No bother about the tails - you might lose points in a camera club competition but it doesn’t detract from the images.

Maybe shoot wider with the intention of cropping afterwards. Don’t get as shallow DoF but it’s easier than trying to frame perfectly in camera.

Thanks Tom .... I had been waiting for quite a while for something to come and perch itself on the decking, and when it did I think I panicked and took the shot too quickly as I knew he wouldnt stay around too long, so had to switch the camera on (SX50 bridge camera) zoom in and click the only other shot I got was him with his head down ... taken through the closed window, so hoping for another good sunrise in the next few day.
