Hi everyone,

On a steep learning curve, took some half reasonable landscapes on the Mersey ferry the other day using a Tamron 18-250 due to the distances/travelling light but have various gull-blurs in odd places and very few in focus to add interest. And yes, I know it's not the fastest...

How or with what would you have set up these shots without breaking the bank?

:D:D:D

Come on Trisha lets see the photos. The suspense is killing me ;)

Deleted most of them in disgust, but this one gives an idea of the problem:

...others were even closer and fuzzier.

Hmm...you're right; that's why this one wasn't ditched. Some looked like something unrecognisable from a horror movie...

how about taking a loaf of bread and chucking it 20ft behind and to the side before taking the shots ;) should keep em busy for a minute or two?

ive seen worse birds than that in Liverpool

All it needs is a bit of HDR as most of the shots i see from this neck of the woods are all HDR :D::exit:

just try uping the iso a bit to get faster shutter speeds if you dont like the blury look. No amount of money on new lenses or gear will improve your photography only practice can do that.

Well for a start I think it needs a little boost of brightness and contrast, hope you don't mind:

For the gulls I can't think of anything except try to snap when they're not in the frame, and perhaps divert them with some bread like Cressers said!

Other than that I think it's a very nice shot, interesting subject and composed perfectly

I was going to say "patience" but I guess that isn't the best solution on a ferry. Not convinced that feeding is a good idea - they're a bit like elementary particles: as soon as one finds potential food, dozens of their friends appear from nowhere.

So, no good ideas then. :(
