Info on old lenses needed

Just developed a new interest in my photography 3D,sorted a twin 300d and sigma 70 300 outfit with radio releases for hide work,of course the feeding station in the garden is still too quiet so started thinking ahead.
For next spring i would like a close up capable 3D rig using the 300d cameras,normally for macro i use an old Nikon D70 and sigma 105mm macro but being semi retired i dont have the spending power i used to have,therefore looking at cheaper alternatives.
Its my understanding the old canon FD lenses will work aperture priority on my 300d cameras via an adapter,now i will not need infinity focus so would not buy adapters with any glass in them and was thinking along the lines of the canon 135mm prime lenses with ext tubes,any body used this type of combination in the past and be willing to share there experiences.
I appreciate the lenses will not match modern quality but i only have just over 6mp any way so within reason ime more interested in the overall picture than resolving that last ounce of detail.

Hi Mike,

FD lenses will only focus to short distances on an EOS camera with an adapter without glass. You could buy an adapter with glass to allow infinity focus, but image quality will be degraded.

You would be far better off investing in M42 screw mount lenses, Pentax K mount lenses, Contax/Yashica mount lenses, Nikon F mount lenses or Olympus OM mount lenses. Cheap adapters are available for all of these lenses and you will have no problem with infinity focus. All can be used in aperture priority mode or manual mode.

Thanks again whatever i go for it will be a fixed focal length,the main query was the ability to use auto exposure,it takes time to set one camera in manual two may be getting silly.:bang:
Not too concerned about the loss of infinity focus so i now have a list of possibility's to use without introducing extra glass.
As they say i was there in the eighties when tamron was at its prime,the main advantage they offered was closer focusing than Nikon and canon,and price;)
