Ink and paper advice for the Pixma Pro9000

Ok, so I just pulled the trigger on one of these.

I was considering a CIS but have found that generic carts are cheap anyway, according to ebay but it's ebay, they probably have dulux in them :gag: ....but does anybody rate a brand and if so what brand of paper is recommended to compliment them.

I understand canon paper and ink is going to get the most consistent results. I don't wish to go too cheap, just an 'informed' choice!

The best advice I can offer is to avoid 3rd party inks. Canon originals may be wore expensive BUT if you need to reprint after a couple of months because the prints have faded, you've halved the saving. Throw in a few head cleaning cycles necessitated by blocked nozzles and there goes some more of the saving. Don't forget the recalibration of the printer, possibly for each cart change.

As for paper, I get good results from Canon's own papers and also Ilford Galerie. Even Lidl's own brand stuff is OK (but not yet sure how long prints last on it although they still look good after 6 or more months out in the open but out of direct sunlight).

I’ve had no more blocked nozzles using Jet Tec than I did when I used genuine Epson Cartridges. The Epson cartridges for my printer work out @ about £46.00 :thumbsdown:a pair & I can get 5 Colour & 5 Black Jet Tec's delivered to my door for £29.00,:thumbs: Guess which one's I’m using for the same results. I switch the printer on once a week & print a simple colour test page on plain 80gm paper to keep the heads clean if i'm not printing regularly.

Re above - I had nothing but trouble with my Epson printer I used to own when using 3rd party inks, have only used genuine ones in my new Canon printer and haven't had the problems I used to. So best advice I can give as in previous threads here, stick with genuine Canon inks. :thumbs:
 
Does anyone know roughly how many A4 or A3 prints a set of carts produces? Trying to work out the costings.

If it costs me £2 to print one A3 page when using genuine stuff then I'm not fussed about saving that 30p a page by using cheaper inks.
