Just found these pictures on the web and found them quite cool. Would explain why AF lenses are so expensive...

I doubt they chop it in half, they probably get them properly made. At my workplace we do prototype stuff like this and it costs a bomb. These examples probably cost a lot more than £5000.

The Canon logo in the background probably means these are official prototypes/dummy ones..

Sorry should have said, they were taken at a camera show on a Canon stand so they are genuine.
