Hi all

After some techie advice please. Lesley (aldybird on here) is trying to install her new scanner on her PC. The first time she tried we got the blue screen "IRQ NOT LESS or EQUAL". We tried again, and each time we try now the computer just shuts down and reboots part way through!

Any thoughts guys?

It's doing her head in! :help:

Cheers!

Joe

What OS?

have you made sure the scanner is not connected when loading the software?

or does this happen once you have plugged in the scanner to the computer?

In that case I have no idea what the problem is, but what I would try next is downloading the latest software from the HP site and start again!

First thing to check is if the scanner is compatible with XP

Ever increasingly manufacturers are dropping compatibility for older operating systems

What is the error code when you get your blue screen IRQL errors are usually memory (think someone's said that already) or a driver compatibility issue.

I'm pretty sure all HP XP drivers are signed by the quality lab that Microsoft have so shouldn't be an issue.

Hi guys, thanks for the input. We have just done all of the optional windows updates. We have also tried the latest software/drivers from HP (but I think these are the same).

The error seems to be related to usbport.sys. 0xF7oE735E. Googling this isnt helping! Grrr!

Next is to look at the basic driver as per erding's link.

The other thing we might try is uninstalling all other HP software (i.e. for the HP printer that's also installed.).

Any other ideas welcome! Thanks!

Bios up to date?

Motherboard drivers from maker latest version?

Check the stuff that makes the usb work in other words :)

Might be worth checking there are no strange settings in the current bios too

You might have faulty ram, maybe replace the ram or if you have more than one stick take one out and see if that fixes the problem if not, stick the other one back in and take the other out.

Its worth a try...

Do you have issues with any USB device plugged into the pc?

0xF7oE735E seems to be vendor specific but usdpport.sys is a Windows file, if you have the original you could copy the file back over. To do this you use the expand.exe tool.

Method 2 explains how to use expand.exe. I've used this a number of occasions, where you may think you need to rebuild your machine you can replace the broken file.

Here is an example, if you dont have your CD, you can use the driver.cab file...

expand.exe "c:\windows\system32\..\Driver Cache\I386\driver.cab" -F:usbhub.sys "c:\windows\system32\drivers"

If it's a problem with usbport.sys then this may fix the issue.

Please note this isn't tested! :)

If you don't have any other scanning s/w installed on that pc you can try doing a custom install of the full HP G4010 s/w d/load.

If you select custom install and select just 1 application and install that. If that installs OK, reboot and repeat but select a different application and so on. Some of the applications listed will be for photo editing or albums, so concentrate on installing the HP scanning interface ones first.

Hope that helps.
