Insurance for a trip to Europe.

Hey guys,

We are planing to go to Poland in August this year and I am thinking of getting insured. Just to let you know, I am not a pro nor I get paid for photography. I understand that for some pro users of this forum it will sound silly, but equipment with me will be about 4k worth, and this is quite significant amount for us.

I was hoping to get insured against theft and accidents.

Could you share your experience on insuring your gear and what company you are using?
 
Check with your house contents insurers and holiday insurers - you may already be covered.

When I checked with my house insurance, my gear was covered for a trip to Austria, 8 days.
When I checked with the trip insurers, it was covered there too, but I had to put a rough figure on the equipment.
 
On your contents insurance you need to be looking at "personal possessions away from home" and you need to make sure that you have enough cover there for everything you are likely to have with you, not just your camera gear. (otherwise they may squirm and say you were under insured!) Typically they will allow up to 10% of your contents cover for PPAFH plus specified items (if you have any) for an additional premium.

All insurance companies are different so ask around.

Ours home insurance states that any single item over £2000 must be itemised ..... - but we are covered...
