ive got a canon 60d and a few lenses - perhaps 2ks worth and am going travelling , my house insurance tells me its 'covered' but is this good enough insurance ? can i get good value specific camera insurance ? so what have you got ? looking at going around europe and also cambodia

Is your camera equipment a named item on your insurance? I insured my kit through my home insurance, worth roughly the same as yours, last week and they said I should put it on the policy as a named item because if I lost the bag, they may consider a single item. With a max single item limit of £1500 they said if it wasn't a named item, I might not be covered.

All the use of 'may' and 'might' didn't exactly fill me with confidence and thought they may just be ripping me off but in the end I decided to pay the £20 for the year and just be on the safe side. Didn't do any other shopping around either which was probably another stupid thing to do.

There are plenty of photography specific insurance companies, I use Aaduki and have used Photoguard in the past, but there are others if you searcch on here/google. Both Aaduki and Photoguard cover worldwide travel.

I too am thinking of taking out some cover, I plan to take my gear on holiday and want to ensure i have the best cover and god forbid if anything happened...I would not get any hassle, my first port of call will be home insurance !

With any insurance I would double and treble check the small print, ensure there are not limits on single items. I have seperate insurance through my business banking for my equipment.
