Insurance replacement

Have been offered a Canon 500d 18-55 kit or £550 cash by our insurance company as a replacement for our 450d 18-55mm kit after it was stolen.

When we initially purchased the 450 late last year I decided against the 500d as I had read better reviews on the 450 and something put me off the 500, perhaps it was cash at the time?

Anyway im a bit reticent to take the insurance companies offer on the 500d due to the above but I cant get hold of a 450d kit anyway for the same price it seems

Am I being fussy about not having a 500d? Alternatives for the price - could I push for 40d in this price range? Opinions welcome
 
What's do you consider better about the 450d?

Bit puzzled as I thought the complete opposite to you and am very pleased with my 500d
 
Sorry to hear your kit was stolen, but glad your getting it sorted.

Are you in a position to put any monies to the £550 offer, you could look at the 550D - around £100 extra, then there is the 50D for more still.

The 40D is a cracker and should be in the insurance money range for you - when you had the 450D, were you happy with the feel of the body - size, weight etc as the xxD range are bigger bodied and heavier, something else for you to think about.

I think it was also the monies at the time and I felt I was paying for the video aspects of it and I didnt need one etc etc on top of this Im sure there was a few reviews leaning towards the 450 due to thsi

I think the 50d is out of price, the 40d might be there but this will be second hand I presume? The 550 - not thought of those.....yet!
 
If you liked the 450 reckon you would be just as pleased with the 500 especially the much better LCD and sorted AF

If I were looking to get a camera now can't see much better than the Pentax K-x, you could get the twin lens kit for £550

Well thats pleasing then on th 500, not going to change makes as I had a nifty fifty and a canon 10-22 which also needs replacing :'(
