Insurance replacment

I took my 40d swimming last week when I sliped down a bank and in to river whilst trying to photograph salmon leaping. :bang:
My insrurance company have offered me a 60d as a replacment but I feel it's a step back in quality with plastic body etc.
Do you think it's a reasonable replacment or is there some chance of me pushing them into a 7d even though it's much more expensive?

Lol well it's worth a shot? If it does work out then let me know what company your with as my 7d would love to go for and dip and become a 1dIV. But seriously the 60d ain't all that bad but not sure what basis you could argue as on paper the 50d and now 60d are the subsequent models?

I received a 60D last week as a replacement for my 40D, and to be honest, I was quite impressed. Before I received it, I spoke with a Canon rep and he said that the 60D is built from a different plastic to other plastic bodies? So it isn't as "plasticy" as them.

I asked about a 7D, but they wouldn't move on that. However, I traded my 60D for a 7D with a member on here, and I am extremely happy.

If that is not an option for you, I think the 60D will be great.

The trick with insurance replacement is to go through the specs, if you can find one or more Features that the replacement does not have that your 40d has then it is grounds to reject the replacement for something better. (not long ago had the same battle)

Good news, my insurance company has agreed to replace my 40d with a 7d after I talked to them about the palstic body and lower fps on the 60d.

Next question do I keep the 18-135mm lens they are replacing my 17-85mm with or is there a better option that wont cost the earth 2nd hand?

i'm off topic abit, any idea which camera insurance company is good to go for?

My kit is start to build up and the grand value is around 3k and i feel i need to insure my gear just incase .......

Yeah same, I'd be interested. I have about 1.2k worth of stuff...starting to worry as well as the only thing isurred is the D5000 - which is possibly the cheapest of the lot! :O

Wow I'm impressed you managed to get a 7d! Well the 15-85 is the upgrade to that lens so you should try for that!

It depends on the insurance policy, did you have replacement value/repair only-new for old or any other variation/ exceptions.

M&S premier home insurance, with new for old replacment.
They work out the replacment on spec rather than price so I was able to show that the 60d they offered at first was missing some of the features on my 40d.
Overall very happy with the process, it would have been nice to get the 15-85 rather than the 18-135 but I cant complain.

That's encouraging. I've been with M&S for several years, but never had to make a claim.
