I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of an insurance company that can insure my camera...in a war zone? Given most insurance policies I've had for other things all have the caveat 'not covered for act of god or war' etc I think I may need something a bit specialised lmao. I'm not off anytime soon, but I could be at some point in the future and I get the feeling it may take a while to find!

TBH - I think you'll be struggling. Either that or the premium / excess required will be so extortionate will mean that you'd be better off bearing your own liability

I was afraid that might be the case. I've got a while to look though. If I go at all it won't be until at least September, and even that's not set in stone.

Hopefully Afghan, I'm an Army bandsman and our unit rock group has volunteered to go out on a moral-boosting tour to play for the boys and girls over there. It's not anywhere near confirmed or anything though. Hopefully it will be though!

Well best of luck, I would love to go as it sounds like it could be very interesting.

Check with your existing insurers.

Insurance won't usually cover you for acts of war, but that shouldn't mean there is a geographical exclusion as I understand it.

So if you get blown up by a terrorist cell in Budleigh Salterton you won't be covered, but if you drop your camera in Kabul you should be.

So how would a soldier normally insure personal possessions when going to a war zone - is that down to you or through the army?

You can do it through specialist insurers. I've had a brain wave actually with you saying that Erding, I might give media ops a ring and see what they do

As far as I know, the forces are self insuring due to the size of the business capital thats avaliable to cover a possible claim and the risks that would need to be covered. I doubt if they will have specific insurance for any piece of military equipment... Basicaly, if any equipment or anyone gets damaged, we all pay our taxes for it to be replaced or compensated.

However one of the toggs may recomend a personal insurance policy for their own posessions and effects.

NAFFI insurance used to be OK, if a little expensive (back around 1990-2000)

Not too sure if Naafi financial are even still going  But thanks for the heads up!

What about going to the betting shop and placing a bet on your camera equipment breaking, just make sure the odds cover the cost of the gear :D

Now that's a freaking great idea!

During the recruitment process, you get few options for kit and life insurance. You can insure your military & personal kit under one policy. Back when I was in, we used these:

Chris, you might want to check your existing insurers for your kit. Your personal stuff may already be covered. You might have to check up to what amount though.
