Hey guys,

Did a quick search of the forum for an old thread of insurance recommendations but couldnt find it, basically im starting to do a few more gigs and some night club photography, id like my gear as well as myself insuring :D, which companies would you guys and gals recommend or avoid?

Thanks in advance

i'm with photoguard, have been for about 4 years - never needed to put in a claim, so don't really know what they're like

was originally off a recommendation from a few toggers i know

another + for photo guard insurance :) im with them and i feel a little safer! :p

Well from all the feedback ive seen and the fact a friends just gone with them as well i think im going to take the plunge, shouldn't be so expensive with only 1.5k gear (For now *bans self from the sale forums*) then :D

Aaduki for me. I put in a claim a couple weeks ago for a camera and other gear that was stolen from a wedding on a Sunday and everything was approved by Wednesday with the supplier contacting me Thursday to arrange delivery.

Top notch.

The acid test is always how quickly who ever you use responds when you claim;)

Photo-shield are good, their policy gives great coverage and you can pay the premium by 0% direct debit:thumbs: Looked at a few of the other guys mentioned and they wanted between 8%-11% to pay that way. Plus policy builds no claims bonus if you don't claim:clap:

Seen them at quite a few shows so good to know they are big enough to attend those sorts of things, plus you can usually meet the person you spoke to.

I've often thought about it, but since most of my camera kit is issued, I never bothered...
We're encouraged to take out personal insurance through (expensive) MoD-approved companies, but I always thought it was a rip-off... Any military kit destroyed or lost on operations is written off by the MoD as Operational Loss...other kit I leave at home where it's covered under my household or motoring policy... what I do take with me usually costs less than 6 month's premiums anyway - so I take the risk...

They try to con us with saying we're covered while on Operations, as civilian companies won't insure for conflict areas... but TBH I don't take my cars or household contents with me to Iraq and Afghanistan, so where's the advantage?

I was with Photoguard, but my last renewal shot up due to the addition of a big lump of glass, rang my insurance broker and got a much better deal, and better cover on my household policy.

I'm with Towergate - I couldn't find a policy that gave me exactly what I needed so Towergate put together a bespoke policy for me - at a lower cost than anyone else. Well pleased.

Im with photoguard aswell, not much between them and aaduki to be honest. I had some questions and rang both, whoever I spoke to at aaduki was pretty unhelpful so I went with photoguard.£18 a month for £3ks worth of kit which is pretty good.

i added a 120-300 to my policy last week (replacement value of £2300) and it went up by £11/month..

careful with household covers, they may not cover you in cars and im pretty sure you wont get liability cover..
