Anyone looked into having insurance when taking your camera abroad ? I haven't owned my camera from New so know a few companies wouldn't pay out

I'd check out your household insurance.
NFU & John Lewis both seem to include stuff without any extra premium (within certain limits of course)

If you have camera insurance from a photographers insurance firm like photoguard, they give the option for international insurance.
It doesn't add much to the premiums.

Anyone heard of E&L INSURANCE ?

There really cheap & offer what I want.

Will have to read the fine print on whether they cover 2nd hand cameras

Not sure if they'll cover a 2nd hand camera

Stay well away from them, terrible at paying out. Took me 6 months to get them to pay out on my horse insurance. And heard loads of other people say the same on different things they've insured with them not just horse insurance.

I had my gear insured with E&L until I re read their T&C's and saw what the excess is. Their excess is 8% of the total, which for me with just over £9K worth works out at over £700 for excess. With Photoguard, who I'm with now the excess is set at a voluntary £250 or £0 for a bit higher premium. My premium for Photoguard is around £250 for the year and you have the option for using it abroad and public liability too.

Yes stay well away from E&L, I know plenty of people who have had a negative experience with them.

I had a quote from photogaurd, works out at £11 a month.

Yeh mine is £13.50 it all depends on value of gear and what cover you want.

Is your gear all new?
I'm worried about getting insurance and finding that I'm not covered as my gear is 2nd hand.

I know protect my bubble won't cover 2nd hand gear

Most of my gear is owned from new. I'm not sure if eh cover second hand. Just give them a call.

Most people would recommend them.

Yes. Just got a reply from them they do cover 2nd hand gear as long as you get the items insured upto thier price when new.
