Having met David Nightingale a few years ago I have kept an eye on his photoblog - Chromasia. Today he has published an interesting article on which images should you convert to black and white. I often look at some of my shots and think the same question. Thought I'd share the link.
Quite a few years ago I was an avid DN consumer, since then I've followed my own paths and developed my own beliefs about photography and his work/ideas thoughts no longer impress me like they did.
I do feel he is fundamentally wrong in his approach to B/W even if it is absolutely consistent with all his work.
I think a B/W picture is conceived before the frame is shot, not after.
I mean if you follow the direction of his article, where he presents you with pictures not suitable, possible and then sympathetic to B/W "treatment" after they have been shot, and you understand that process of choice, why don't you shoot the bladdy frame as though it were B/W already, and save yourself the fannying about..
