Interesting noise test chart from techrader

No interest? Do most people think the test is rubbish?

I don't think most people pay much attention to charts like these because they don't really relate them to the real world - I can much better understand noise from a 100% crop of various pics at various ISO levels.

.

I've been doing that to at dpreview with the d700 and d7000 nef files. The difference is less than i thought.

It is really interesting to see the raw files on dpreview i've not seen it before. People see the figures in mags/websites and see the 1stop difference etc.., but it is good to see what it equates too in real life. I'm now looking at the om-d and d7000 comparisons, which to my eyes has less than a stop in it. Its hard to tell without downloading the images, but I don't see a stop between the d700 and d7000 either.

Yeah, the OMD samples look very impressive considering the sensor size. I always set the area box around the ladies face as that to me shows the clearest difference.

The new pens also share its sensor and AF speed so should be nice.

Yeah i know and EURO400 price sounds good too. I meantime on another thread if they made a pen with a build in EVF for EURO600 i would bite there hand off!

NEX6 also looks good, so many nice cameras coming out.
Yes i will probably buy the nex6 because of the evf, i would happerly by a m4/3 if the brought out a compact evf camera. the omd and gh are just to big and expensive.

The noise thing is pretty much over. When I can get acceptable 11X14s at ISO 3,200 off a compact I lose interest in these charts ;)

It's not got any darker since cameras suddenly got better (roughly with the advent of the D3) so manufacturers will have to pick another number to wow us with.
