Hi,

an interesting opinion on the 7D's AF system HERE

However, having read it, surely it would be unfair to expect the 7D to be able to compete with the Mark III ( twice the price new ) and the D700 ( 2 and 1/2 times the price new ), although the author does say it IS pretty good overall.

I would like to own the 7D ( I promised myself I would never buy another brand new body ), and having seen the price drop on the 50D from around £1200 new to around £700 in just over a year I might just wait on the 7D dropping or failing that a good used Mark III :D

Hi,

I just took the prices off Camerpricebuster - 7D £1279, Mark III £2499 and D700 £2999, I know my 'rithmetic wasn't 100% but not too far out :shrug:

7d should be getting close on a 1dII for AF as they lifted the AF system, it is the only non 1 series eos body to have a separate chip for AF which means crunching the numbers faster to give faster results
 
Mike, I'll be back with my 7D from the Galapagos tomorrow, give me a ring later in the week and you can have a peek. Absolutely delighted with the af system, beat my 1 DS mk 3 in to a cocked hat, about to fly home in an hour or so from Ecuador.

Hi George, thanks for the offer, will try and give you a shout later in the week and pop along/meet for a looksee. Working until thurs morning so will see if I can get some 'me' time lol. Mike.

Im glad George is finding the AF on his 7d better than his 1ds mk3 i have been running mine alongside a 1d mk2 and finding it's better only just but better over a broad spectrum of lighting conditions a few other people have been finding it the opposite way. Im just glad i am not alone ive used mine on birds in flight motorsport and football matches not a problem
