I am selling a lens on ebay that is worth a fair bit and I want it insured for loss/damage in transit. I've an interested buyer in Austria but the best price I can get for insured tracked is £60ish... They tell me you can do this for much less but I can't for the life of me figure out where. Most places that will do it cheap will only compensate up to £50ish...

Has anyone sold internationally and can suggest how I can ship this cheaper?

You get what you pay for with international shipping i`m afraid.

That's what I'd thought but the buyer swears they've had tracked insured items of similar weight and greater value at £25.. I will check out parcel2go, thanks...

If it is high value, check and double check the small print regarding insurance and get confirmation by email if possible. For high value I would use one of the high end parcel carriers to be honest.

so it's an interested buyer telling you what you should be paying for shipping? don't think it works like that.

i sent a lens to denmark a couple of weeks ago. UPS wanted £92 (48hr), fully insured, fully tracked. Parcel Force had 3 options.. something like fully insured and tracked was around £60, insured up to £100 was £40ish and insured up to £50 and no tracking but proof of sending was late £20's. i gave the buyer the option and he went for the £40 (arrived in 3 days).

that was for a 3kg Bigma worth £500. I'd just tell him the options and let him decide.

Ask buyer what company was used that cost £25 if he don't tell you maybe he is telling porkies 
