Intuos 4 tablet - what size?

I intend to buy an Intuos4 tablet for using with Photoshop, but cannot decide which size to get. I was thinking of getting the medium, but looking at the prices on Amazon, it does not seem such good value as the small or large sizes. The prices are:

small: £156
medium: £298
large: £314

Since I only intend to use it with Photoshop, will the small size be large enough? It certainly leaves more room on the desk for the keyboard and is almost half the price of the medium. However, one of the reasons for wanting a tablet is greater accuracy than using the mouse, so will it be too small?

If it is too small, is it woth paying another £16 and getting the large?

I would appreciate any opinions from those that have used an Intuos tablet and what size was found to be the best.


I have also noticed reports of rapid nib wear on the Intuos4 pens. Has anyone had personal experience of this or is it just a few isolated cases?
 
No personal experience of this model but I would say get the medium or large, I found the old small wacom tablets to small for me and gave up on them.
In the end on the PC I went for a logitech precision wireless laser mouse and a precision mouse mat to go with it.
Since having to change to the laptop I have just calibrated the touch pad on my Vaio and tend to leave the laser mouse in the drawer.
 
The difference between the Small and the two others in the range is more than the size. The Large & Medium have controls, indicators and programmable buttons, plus the spin wheel which makes life a little easier.

It sounds like it will not be in use 5 days a week using it for what you want so I would think the nib wear would not be a problem for you. My wife and I have a Medium Wacom 4 each and they get used most days and we have yet to replace a nib in 14 months use. Even so, no problem replacing a small piece of plastic every once in a while.

We went for the medium as for the work we do it was more than sufficient. The Large does occupy a lot of real estate on the desk, I doubt if you would make use of the extra area.
 
Thanks for the replies, it looks like the small may be a bit too small. I do believe the small includes the spin wheel and 6 programmable buttons instead of 8, but without the indicators.

It have noticed that some retailers are offering a lightroom 3 / intuos4 medium bundle at almost the same price as the intuos4 on its own, which makes it a bit more attractive.
 
Since the large is only a bit more expensive (at least from Amazon) is it worth getting the large or is the working area a bit too big for Photoshop?
