I've been giving my Camera Connector a quick test & results so far....

First a Whinge :p

It won't power my multicard reader with anything bigger than a 1Gb card :bang:

With a 4Gb Sandisk Extreme III 30Mb/s card in my Canon 50D

4Gb / 201 RAW files.

Upload to iPad -> Just under 13 minutes
Upload from iPad to PC - > Just under 4 minutes

Some more info [ never used an Apple product so it may be my fault ;)]

I had to Ctrl Alt Del iTunes when I connected it to the PC, it was either stuck doing a backup or it was very very very slow (worked fine after photos were deleted)

I can't find any way of block deleting the photos from the iPad except from the PC, there doesn't appear to be an album delete

Actually, I don't think i will upload pics to the iPad, I only use 8G cards and that will just take too long to do on site. The client will be bored if those times you posted are correct.

I will carry it around though...just in case.

Not good...wonder if there's a specific type of reader it will work with? I have one or two I'm going to try and test it with this week.

Brian - I thought the USB one you got with it meant you could plug in camera direct?

That's what I had to do, the problem is that you have to leave the camera tethered to the iPad for 14 minutes for 4Gb which is a long time for the camera batteries & no shooting.

I plugged my card reader into the USB direct but the iPad gave an error mesage about lack of power if I tried any bigger than a 1gb card

(this is for CF cards, SD(HC) plug directly into the other camera adaptor)

Argh. Sounds like we all need to test with different readers.

Mine is on order...

Cheers for info Mr Brian.

If anybody has success in finding a good low power multi/single card reader could they post the make / supplier here

I dont own an iPad or a Camera Connector so this is only a suggestion not a recommendation. But you could try one of the older card readers that are USB1.1 ONLY! It would be slower to upload but it is lower power and might work with a larger card. Would mean that it's slower but you dont have to waste camera batteries having it tethered.

Hope that helps
Jamie

Tried it with my Lexar UDMA SD/CF reader yesterday. Only transferred a couple of images but it did that fine. That was with a Sandisk 32GB Extreme.

might be perfect for jpegs written to the sd in my 1 series

Yesterday was the first time I ever envied the dual-card feature of the 1D series. It would be very handy to shoot raw to the CF and low-res jpegs to the SD. Then load the SD into the iPad and look through the shoot.

Looks good, I've ordered one from 7dayshop so I'll give it the :thumbsdown: when it turns up :)
