iPad now late May instead of April

Apple/com/uk now changed the date from april to may

apparantly because of such high demand in the US. Says late may on the apple site but bbc indicates they will take orders on 10 may

just to irritate me most likely, mind you hopefully will get mine from the states in June instead anyway so probably a good thing as it means i'll have less temptation to buy it earlier

At least the 3G version is not going to be locked to just one carrier, like the iPhone originally was

After the cock-up with the screens on the 27" imac, maybe Apple are trying to get a new product right before shipping them out.

If this were due to a quality issue, I suspect we would be looking at a longer delay. Apparently, they misjudged the popularity of the iPad in the States.

I know im going to get slated but I just dont get it, there are other pad style machines out there that arent limited to apples limited way of doing things, hp slate for example.

don't think it is either of these. I think it is as stated in the report and my OP, just selling more than expected in the US

Methinks you are right with trusting apple on this one Joe - I think they suprised even themselves with demand in the US.

As for the wifi issues they seem very similar to the 1st gen iPhones - which was rapidly fixed with a firmware update.
