iPad via card reader?

Is it possible to transfer/copy files from SD card to iPad via card reader? Sometimes it might benefit me to upload files and process them on the iPad(to edit them on Snapseed whilst away from home etc)

I think at least I'd probably need an USB to lightning adaptor but unsure if this would even work...
 
Not sure on the new ipad but the old connector I pads had a plug convertor to sd card £25 though. Worked a treat.
 
There is a Lightning to SD card reader, works fine: MD822ZM/A
 
Yes works for us - just plug our card reader into the USB slot of the iPad connector kit we have and it finds and downloads from the card easily - this is for my CF card.
The other connector in the pack is for SD cards directly, so card reader not required.
 
I use a MobileLite device. Pop the SD into the device and it creates its own wifi signal to transfer to the card.
It was cheaper than the official connector and I can use it across apple and android devices
