ipads any good for editing nefs and in general

hi all in benidorm at the minute and only have my small slow netbook with me 1.6mhz atom processor,was just wondering if there was anything like lightroom for the ipads or anything similar and what is the speed like for photo editing,or any other obseravations on ipads cheers guys
 
Snapseed is quite nice for a quick edit.

I paid no attention to your raw requirement. You will need to create a jpeg version in camera and upload that to the iPad.

If you have Adobe CC you can use Lightroom Mobile, on ipad or Android - it's a long way from the desktop, but does allow you to load and edit raw files, and also synchs them back to your desktop lightroom fro full editing and inclusion in collections, etc.

I haven't used it much in anger, but doesn't it require you to add the photos to lightroom, then lightroom uploads to cloud where you can download on a mobile device? I didn't think you could load onto the mobile device first?

You can...
It's not the fastest, or the best, but it's possible.

I always wonder though (whilst not everyone shoots the way wedding photographers do), IPad storage is a hideous premium, when compared to the amount of data we store from our cameras, making it impractical for all but specialist use.

Ah right, has it changed then, as I didn't think you could do that with the early versions (or I may memory may be rusty)?

With an Android tablet you have the option of a micro sd card, which gives up to 128gb, and you can swap cards, making a more viable solution - but transfer times to the tablet are very slow compared to pic.
If you have Wi - Fi, the option to get the images uploaded to the cloud might be a good backup option.
I don't think it's a solution for a full set of shots, but if you need (or just want) to get a basic convert from raw, with a reasonable degree on controll, so you can get a few shots available online while away, then it does the job, and I suspect Adobe will be putting a lot more into it over the next 12 months.
 
cheers guys looks like a notebook upgrade ,if i can find one with a reasonable cpu,my 15 inch laptop is just too big for travel,anyone recommend one about 10 inch cheers
 
I've recently used an iPad Air 2 with camera connection kit and it was fine importing all my Canon Raws, then some light editing with photos app.

Though you mention NEFs surely it would be odd if the latest iOS handled Canon raw and not Nikon?
