Yep, you just need to configure your google account as an exchange server and it will sync calendars, contacts and give you push mail.
If you use outlook, you'll need to configure syncing in the relevant screen in iTunes.

The inbuilt Calendar (and Contacts for that matter) sync with Outlook no problem. You just need to select the relevant option in iTunes when the iPhone is docked (Info tab if memory serves).

I don't use google so can't comment there.....

Ive set up my own email domain to be used with gmail and ive got that email account setup and working on my iPhone. How do I setup the calendar? Does the google calender sync with the iPhones stock calender?

Ive set my iphone up with google calender and it works perfectly.

Does the google calender sync with the iPhones stock calender?

Indedy it does once you have set up google account. Go to Settings>mail etc>accounts (select your google) and there it will let you toggle which you would like synced (mail , contacts, calenders).

Hth.

There's loads on the Google Calendar help pages about how to set it up. It works very well.

I have a 32GB iPod Touch and I started looking into ways to sync an iPhone calendar with Google calendar. I found many options but all involved some third party apps and that’s clearly not what I was looking for. You are technically able to sync Google calendar with your iPhone or iPod Touch, as long as you have internet access.
Here is how to set up your iPhone or iPod Touch to sync calendars with Google over the air:

1. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add CalDAV Account

2. For the CalDAV settings, enter the following information. Note that your username should be the email address you use to access your Google calendar as well as the password.
3. Then tap “Next” and it should verify your information.

4. If you can’t get your account verified, tap “Advanced settings” and make sure that “Use SSL” is On, that the port is 443, and that your Account URL includes the sign “@” in your email address.
That’s it!

Now every time you add an event to your iPhone calendar, it will also show up on your Google calendar, and vice versa. You obviously need to have internet access from your iPod or iPhone for the data to sync. Note that the sync is not immediate. It sometimes takes a few seconds but besides this, it works very well.

That is the method I use, it works very well!

I also use pretty much the same method to sync with iCal on my Mac too.

Works great, apart from it doesnt seem to copy my iPhones calender to my gmail account yet. I created an event on my gmail account on my PC and that shows up on my iPhone.

Do either of you have notifications setup?

I don't tend to add alarms to stuff, but they do work. It comes up on both my Mac and iPhone which is a bit annoying.

Have you got multiple calendars set up on your iPhone, such that the events you are adding are going onto a calendar that isn't being synced, but your iPhone is set to display all calendars?

Iam just using the stock calender app.

In all calenders, ive got 'all on my iPhone' and 'all google'

Yeah, you need to make sure that you are selecting Google Calendar when you create an event for it to sync across.

Ah yeah, I see. Looks like I will have to delete then recreate all of my old events that where on my calender prior to me setting this up as you cant select the calenders in the old events

Has google sync changed or something? Iam trying to backup my contacts again as ive added a few more numbers but once I try to sync it in iTunes isnt not copying over the new contacts.

Any ideas?

You're right, there, you can't change the calendar of an event from the phone, I brought all my old events across using iCal.

I'm not using Google sync, so can't help with that one.

I would certinaly recomend google sync

I've looked again and it seems to have moved on from last time I looked at it. I just need to get down to one Google account for it to work now.
