iPhone charging in car

I have a unit that converts my power source (cigarette lighter) in the car into two sources and two USB ports.

Is there any reason not to use such a unit to charge an iPhone? I am worried about power surges etc but not clued up on why they might happen / it they can / if I am just overly concerned.

The car is a 59 reg Focus if that matters.

Charging stuff is what those ports are for!
Will not do any harm at all to your i-phone.

That's good to know - much appreciated.

My concern was due to having had a poor quality charger before that I believe killed the battery in my E71. Mind you, I have no evidence for that but I used it for a month and found that the battery couldn't hold a charge.

iPhone 4 won`t charge via most of those type of chargers. I just use a twin usb cigarette plug and a normal sync lead. Most work on 12 or 24 volt.

Exactly the same setup that I have got and I have had no problems either!

As above! We got those super long usb cables, so we trail it under the carpet to the 3rd row of seating, so we've got iPod/iPhone acess points everywherre!

You can pickup the tiny cigarette > usb ones that sit flush with the socket for £1.19 delivered on ebay!

my focus has the socket to connect ipod to car, that works fine.
