OK, iPhone (3G) is stuck on Apple logo..... get it into restore mode by holding down home key and plugging in with iTunes open.

Restore and Upgrade iphone? Erm, no, I don't want to upgrade to OS4 as it runs like a bloody dog.... so, no option to just restore and keep the OS you already have on the phone that you are perfectly happy with?

Why? Why bloody force you to upgrade, then no option to downgrade?

Next steps are..... restore; sell, then remove iCrap from my laptop never to be seen again.... :D

Hell yeah.... Imagine the furore if Microsoft forced everyone with XP to upgrade to Win 7 through windows update and their PC's weren't up to running it? :bang:

Steve Jobby does it and it's cool.... just got to be good, hasn't it. :cuckoo:

And don't get me started on iPhone internet tethering, what an utter POS!
22kb/s max is what I got last week on holiday.
They said it's actually working so there's nowt they can do about it.
My 5Gb allowance would take years to use up. :o(

You can restore with the same firmware you had on before. You dont need to upgrade. They just dont tell you that it is possible (easily).

Not sure on PC, but on the Mac, start iTunes, alt + click on update. It will browse for the ipsw file.

Find the firmware you have and then select it. It will restore with that one.

If you dont have it anymore, google iphone firmware download and click the top link.

All firmwares are there. Not sure if I can post the link though..

Done.

OK, the plot thickens.... I've just had a conversation with Steve Jobby via iTunes.

Jobby: Hi, what can I do for you?

Me: Can you restore my iPhone and put an OS on it I don't want please.

Jobby: OK, just to confirm, you don't want OS4 on it, is that correct?

Me: That's correct.

Jobby: OK, commencing OS4 installation operation now, please wait.....

Me: FFS.............

Jobby: Dunno.....

Me: What will I do now?

Jobby: Dunno....

Me: Can you try again please?

Jobby: OK, hold on.

Ten minutes later......

Jobby: Sorry, computer says no..... an unknown error has occurred.

Me: Any ideas at all?

Jobby: Bin it?

Me: OK, it only cost £350 anyway.

Jobby: Thanks for your money, goodbye...

Me: Hold on! What will I do for a phone now?

Jobby: iPhone 4 is very good

Me: How much?

Jobby: Only around £600

Me: OK, I'll buy two tomorrow, thanks.

Jobby: No problem, glad to be of no service.

Tee hee (sorry - I feel for you really :)). Absolutely NO apple products here. I like to be in control of my machines - not the other way around!

I think I got it fixed, but it might be a bit technical for some people.

In a fit of rage I threw it from the bed and bounced it off the chair on the other side of the room - it then landed on the floor, and 5 minutes later the cat fell asleep on it.

When she moved about ten minutes ago I plugged it into iTunes and it started to restore without any problems.

Velocity on impact and trajectory unknown....

If anyone wants to hire the cat, she's £5 per day.........

See ... it does 'just work' just not always the first time!

I had a similar annoying apple moment yesterday when I moved my router to a different room and changed my iMac to be connected via wifi instead of ethernet. I have a ps3, iphone, macbook and ipad all connected wirelessly to the router but could i get my imac to connect - could I boot!

fiddling around and trying to fix I was shouting at it to 'just work' and it wouldn't.

Then 10 mins later I did nothing different at all and it worked. I think it had a pc complex until it remembered it was an apple device then gave in.

im going to print that out and pin it to my wall at work for when im feeling down..

:p

I can forward you something that you could pin up to make you feel even happier but it's not safe for work :D

Jobby told me that iThings roam in packs; iPhone, iPad, iMac, iPod..... apparently the more you spend on things beginning with i the better they work as a unit.... is that true?

Edit: Maybe you don't need the cat due to owning so many iThings?

New iCat.... In stores now.

My Apple products are the same. The work fine for ages...Then point blank refuse to work no matter what you try.... the just start working again for no apparent reason.
At least when Windows breaks, its stays broken.

 had exact same thing with my iMac early this year, but worse, I hadn't moved anything! Just decided it wasn't going to connect anymore - 24 hrs later, it stopped being so condescending and joined in again

I need an ipad to mop up the spilt coffee.

I had that with my Time Capsule, I changed provider, got a new router and switched it over and the TC stopped working completely.

6 months on, I'm still waiting for it to 'join in again' :D
